Best Hiking Camera

As a professional photographer, many of you are asking about the type of camera I am using when I hike or when I travel. Well, I am going to answer all your questions with six of the best hiking cameras.

If you are an aspiring photographer and at the same time a hiker, you may want a camera that is suitable for your needs. I cannot dictate you to use this product because I don’t know what your photography needs are. Aside from that, there are lots of factors that will affect your buying decision. These include your budget, how durable and how you are going to use it.

I am going to provide you with the best cameras that you can use for hiking. I am fond of hiking. The cameras I personally use are different from what I am using in my other adventures. In my opinion, the most important thing a person needs to consider when buying a hiking camera is the weight.

Professionals use a DSLR camera that has multiple lenses when hiking. This kind of camera is known to create high-quality photos in a different environment. But I do not recommend DSLR cameras with multiple lenses to the beginners because of its weight. Many amateur photographers don’t have the budget to purchase this expensive kind of camera.

When looking for a good camera, you can use for hiking. There are lots of factors you need to take into consideration. These include the height, weight, the lenses, your budget, and many others. I am going to provide you with the six cameras I usually use during my hiking adventure. You don’t have to spend a fortune, if your budget is limited, you can buy some cheap camera with satisfying specifications.

Get your notebook and a pen to jot down the different cameras I am going to review. So, if you want to know more about it, then keep on reading and enjoy!

AKASO V50 Elite

The first camera I am going to review is the AKASO V50 Elite. It is available on Amazon with a price of 118.99 US Dollars. In my experience of using this camera, it produces 20 MP of the picture and enables me to record quality and full High Definition videos.

One of the things I love about this product is that it has a voice control feature. This means that I can use it hands-free. I can start capturing photos and recording videos with the use of my voice. It also has high-quality image stabilization. I can record videos without unnecessary shakes. This helps you to produce films and boast it to your friends and on social media.

There are three view angles that one can choose from. This is a pretty good feature for me since I can adjust the view angle easily, from narrow to medium to wide and vice versa. I don’t need to worry about the possible image distortion since this camera comes with a distortion calibration feature.

Another good thing about this product is that it is fully waterproof for up to 131 feet. Its package includes an innovative waterproof case that you can take up to 131 feet underwater. Since then, aside from hiking, I can also use it for various sea adventures, like snorkeling, diving, surfing, swimming, and many others.

  • Waterproof
  • Optional view angle
  • Improved Electronic Image Stabilization
  • Voice control

Pros

  • Budget-friendly

To conclude, the AKASO V5 Elite can be your hiking buddy if you are on a budget. It is available on Amazon for less than 120 US Dollars. You will be amazed at how it helped me to produce smooth videos and quality photos. The problem I encountered with this camera is that it can barely record size when covered by its case.

DJI Osmo Action

A camera that comes with advanced features is expected to be expensive. The second camera I am going to review is the DJI Osmo Action. It has more advanced features, such as its dual-screen. I love how it helped me to capture photos easily, just by touching its button.

The camera is both versatile and durable. It uses advanced technology that enables me to enjoy more time improving my photography and videography skills. An example of advanced technology it uses is its Rocksteady technology. The said feature helps to create shake-free and more stable footage in spite of how heavy the action is.

You can also produce slow motion footage. It has 8x Slow motion features enabling someone to record the epic moment with amazing detail and clarity. Just like the first camera, it is also waterproof up to 11 meters.

Key Features

  • Dual screens
  • The rocksteady technology
  • Waterproof for up to 11 meters
  • 8x slow motion

Pros

  • Its stabilization helps me to create shake-free footage seamlessly.
  • It produces high-quality photos and HD videos
  • It is waterproof

Cons

  • The only drawback I notice about this camera while using it is that I experienced 1.5 seconds of delay when I turned on its image stabilization feature.

Summary

I give two thumbs up to this camera for hiking for its good quality image stabilization feature.  This enables its users the best photography and videography experience. I once tried it under heavy rains and super salty ocean. I was amazed that it has survived, and I did not experience any problems in terms of its quality. If I am going to choose between a GoPro camera and this one, I will choose the latter. Aside from being more inexpensive than the GoPro, it works the same as the first one.

GoPro HERO7

The first GoPro camera that I am going to share is the GoPro HERO7. The hyper smooth video it produces made me amazed. That’s why I give my two hands up for this one. It creates shake-free footages as if you are using a gimbal.

Another feature I love about this product is its TimeWarp. It helps me to record time lapse videos that are super-stabilized. It does not produce shaky footage, no matter how much you move. The GoPro Hero7 comes with a noise reduction feature, local tone mapping, and HDR feature that helped me to record and optimize my shots.

This is one of the waterproof and rugged cameras. You can share your hiking experiences with your friends and on your social media that your phone cannot capture. You can also use it for your underwater adventures with its waterproof feature that is up to 10 meters.

This is one of my most favorite cameras for my hiking adventures. It never let me down. I capture all the scenes I want without experience any hassle.

Features

  • It is waterproof
  • It is rugged
  • 12 MP Photos and 4K60 video
  • TimeWarp
  • HyperSmooth

Pros

  • GoPro HERO7 is one of the best-known cameras that can create quality photos and shake-free videos
  • It is waterproof, which means you can take it underwater apart from hiking
  • It is made with high-quality materials, making it durable and rugged.

Cons

  • Some of its users complain about its enabled Wi-Fi feature. It seems that connecting it to the camera is quite hard or did not happen at all.

Summary

If you have a budget and want to purchase a camera that comes with more advanced features that can satisfy your hiking needs, then GoPro HERO7 is what I can recommend to you. Upon opening the package, it includes the camera itself and other important and useful accessories.

Neewer G2

The fourth camera best for hiking is the Neewer G2 that you can purchase for less than 200 US Dollars. I was amazed after I open its box. It includes lots of helpful accessories, such as one Li-ion battery, 3M adhesive pad, adhesive mount, wire cable, ribbon, J-hook mount, Lens clothing coat, bandage tether strap, fastening strap, tripod mount adapter, screw mount set, bicycle handlebar kit, backdoor, positive frame, 2.4 G remote control, waterproof housing and the action camera itself.

The manufacturer of this device also created an application that you can download on your Android or iOS mobile phones. I love this feature since it helped me to manage it hands-free. You can connect it easily as long as you are within the 33 feet range. With the app installed on your phone, you can easily share your captured photos and recorded videos on your hike with ease and convenience.

The camera also features a wireless wrist remote control. I only need to place it onto my wrist as I install the camera on my helmet. That being said, I can record my hiking moments that are impossible to get captured by a standard mobile phone.

Features

  • Wireless wrist remote control
  • Wi-Fi action camera
  • EZ iCam app that can be downloaded and installed on the mobile phone.
  • Touch screen 4k action camera

Pros

  • It includes numerous parts that are very useful
  • It produces quality images and videos
  • It helps for a shake-free footage

Cons

  • For some shoppers, 199.99 US Dollars is quite expensive.

Summary

Honestly, purchasing this camera is not on my plan. But most of my choices do not include free accessories. If I am going to purchase each one of them separately, it would be more costly for my side. Thank God that this one comes with lots of accessories. I get various helpful and useful accessories at a very low price. So, if you want to get a camera with multiple accessories included, this one is for you.

Sony HDR-AS100VR

One of the best cameras one can use for hiking made by Sony is the HDR-AS100VR. It is known for being the best hiking buddy. I personally love this one since, unlike other cameras, this one comes with a good stabilization feature.

That being said, I was amazed at how this camera helps me to create footages that are free from shakes. Aside from that, it also comes with an advanced steady shot feature. This helps to maintain everything smoothly. Another thing that I love about this device is that it has enabled Wi-Fi. I can share my captured photos and videos to my friends easily.

The said gadget also comes with a camera case that will protect it from the possible water splash while using it. Another thing that I notice about this device is that one can set it up easily. I am not a tech-savvy person, but I am capable of using different types of cameras. Maybe because I am a long-time photographer, that’s why I know how to use a camera, in spite of its complexity.

  • I find the LCD deal cool
  • It helps me to shoot videos and capture photos on high quality

Cons

  • The battery life of this camera is quite short. If you are going to shoot a 45-minute video, I recommend you to purchase spare batteries.

Summary

Another hiking camera that I highly recommend to the starters is the Sony HDR-AS100VR. It is equipped with lots of high-quality features, such as its enabled Wi-Fi and its advanced steady shot feature.

Go Pro MAX

Last but not least, the Go Pro MAX is an excellent hiking camera that is composed of three different cameras. It enabled me to capture and shoot footage for free. Aside from that, it also has Hero-style photos and videos and can create an excellent 360 footage. In my opinion, this one is perfect for vloggers apart from the hikers. This is because it is composed of a front-facing screen and a shotgun-mic performance.

One of the features I love about this device is its Max HyperSmooth. These features provide an excellent stabilization as if you are using a GoPro stabilizer. The camera also enables its users the Live Streaming 1080p feature. This means that one can share their live capturing of photos to your friends and on social media. To do this, one needs to download and install the GoPro application. Insert a SD card to save your files and check it out later.

One of the best features I think is a big help for a lot of hikers is its PowerPano. You can shoot 270-degree of incredible panoramic photos distortion-free. While using this mode, scanning the horizon is not necessary anymore. You can now capture vertical pictures, action shots, PowerPano selfies with a level of the horizon.

  • PowerPano
  • Horizon leveling

  • It is costly but worth the price

Summary

If you have the budget and want to purchase a camera that is loaded with more advanced features, then I highly recommend the GoPro MAX. Yes, it is costly, but I can say that it is worth the price. With its excellent functionalities and performance, most hikers and photographers will love it.
